To celebrate their anniversary we are calling all cake decorators to come forward and submit their beautiful cake designs. Plus there is over $5k worth of prizes up for grabs. 

The competition is open to all ages and skill levels with the different categories including sections for CDA members only, professionals, community members and youth. 

Different categories are broken down below:

Decorated cakes will need to be delivered to the Centre Management Office at Stockland Baldivis between 12pm Friday 21st June 2019 – 12pm Saturday 22nd June 2019. 

The industry judge awards will be determined on Monday the 24th of June, with the cakes then displayed in centre until Friday the 28th of June, where the community will then judge for their favourites.

Free CDAWA Member Workshops & Demos in October

CDAWA Members Book Now! Don’t Miss out!
We have Free workshops and free demos with an international superstar of royal icing who brings a modern twist to traditional royal icing extension and string work.
Many of our members have asked for demos and workshops that will help them get a start with this style of royal icing. So we are flying Shaki, from Italy to run free demos and workshops for our members on October 27th 28th and 31st.  Shaki runs a cake decorating school in Italy, has competed at an international level in competitions around the world and has taught royal icing, flowers, and caked decorating all over the globe.

Saturday 27th of October: FREE morning or afternoon workshops Carine Open Space Community Hall.
Shaki will guide the classes through how to achieve incredible feats of string work, we will provide the royal icing, you just need to bring along a PME or Wilton #1 piping tip, a 6″ fondant covered foam and a couple of other basics. Book in now and Shirley or Gail will provide the full requirements list and other details – It’s a very minimal list, only a few basic items, you’ll be amazed what you can create with just a #1 tip.

Modelling chocolate Demo at Northshore Branch 12th of April

North Shore branch will be hosting Robert Harwood for a Modelling chocolate demo on the 12th of April.

He will Demonstrate how to make, colour and work with modelling chocolate. And show how to use modelling chocolate for fast banners, borders, moulds etc. And how to make ultra fast flowers, super detailed modelling chocolate flowers and some basic basic sculpting.

Mandurah Branch Open Day Wednesday, 18th of April

This month Mandurah Branch will be hosting their open day, Wednesday 18th April- 9am start.
A full, fun filled day awaits with Robert Harwood demonstrating how to make his modelling chocolate recipe, how to make mexican paste (flower paste), and fast home made fondant.


He will cover some basics with mexican paste and fondant and then go into how to work with modelling chocolate for fast banners, borders, moulds etc and modelling chocolate for ultra fast flowers, super detailed modelling chocolate flowers and basic sculpting.

And will very quickly touch on using modelling chocolate over wire armature. 

 

After lunch there will be time to play with modelling chocolate and make a basic model of your own. 

 

Please note the earlier 9am arrival as the demos will start at 9.30am sharp.

More details will follow as they come to hand. There will be raffles and door prizes too.

New members only CDAWA facebook group

The members of the Cake Decorators’ Association of WA have a such a massive wealth of knowledge and experience that it seems a shame to limit ourselves to sharing it only when we are at meetings and events.

We are a grassroots organisation and as our charter states: our aim is “To foster and improve the art of Cake Decorating by providing opportunities for the interchange of ideas and skills”.

The aim of the private group is to provide a local WA platform where all members, especially beginners, can ask more experienced members for advice and to provide a place for all members to share their work, ask for critiques and ultimately further our skills as a group. There are plans to have an occasional post where members can share work they are happy to have featured in the Icing News, this website or on the public Facebook page.  We also welcome your feedback.

The closed Facebook members group is still in its infancy but is a safe, albeit cakey, place for CDAWA members to share, learn, grow, and of course to chat, plus show off your incredible work and to have fun! Because after all,  cakes and cake decorating is all about celebration.
In the coming months, Rita, our State Secretary, will send an invite to all financial members that we have a current email for. Please contact her if you are a current financial member who would like to be added to the group but you have not provided your current email address as yet.
