New members only CDAWA facebook group

The members of the Cake Decorators’ Association of WA have a such a massive wealth of knowledge and experience that it seems a shame to limit ourselves to sharing it only when we are at meetings and events.

We are a grassroots organisation and as our charter states: our aim is “To foster and improve the art of Cake Decorating by providing opportunities for the interchange of ideas and skills”.

The aim of the private group is to provide a local WA platform where all members, especially beginners, can ask more experienced members for advice and to provide a place for all members to share their work, ask for critiques and ultimately further our skills as a group. There are plans to have an occasional post where members can share work they are happy to have featured in the Icing News, this website or on the public Facebook page.  We also welcome your feedback.

The closed Facebook members group is still in its infancy but is a safe, albeit cakey, place for CDAWA members to share, learn, grow, and of course to chat, plus show off your incredible work and to have fun! Because after all,  cakes and cake decorating is all about celebration.
In the coming months, Rita, our State Secretary, will send an invite to all financial members that we have a current email for. Please contact her if you are a current financial member who would like to be added to the group but you have not provided your current email address as yet.

Great start to the Year – Rockingham’s Cake Wars Extravaganza

The Cake Decorator’s Association of WA Rockingham Branch kicked the year off with a bang hosting the first of what we hope will be a continuing tradition. The Rockingham Cake Decorators Association’s Cake Wars. This ultra fun day saw teams from a few different branches test their skills in a number of tricky cake decorating challenge vying for supremacy, bragging rights and the title of Cake Wars Champions.

Rockingham had a great turnout with spectators and competitors coming from far and wide to be a part of the fun.  Rockingham have done and continue to do a lot of work to attract and support new members and deliver exciting meetings and events.

Thank you to the incredible team at the Rockingham branch for putting on such a fun day.  And thank you to the fabulous panel of judges and all the spectators who really helped to make this a great event.

The Australiana themed competition consisted of two elimination rounds before the third and final round. Performance in the previous rounds affected how much equipment teams had access to, and eliminated teams able to purchase devilish sabotages to make things more interesting.

Round 1: Decorate cupcakes with unconventional equipment and very limited time. 15 minutes!

Round 2: Cover a dummy cake with fondant and decorate it using only what the teams could afford to “purchase” from the table of limited resources. It was entertaining watching teams struggle to decide if another colour was more important than a rolling pin, a smoother or more fondant. 30 minutes!

Round 3: Present the Cake and Cupcakes together, improve on the previous designs for the cake and cupcakes and add a cake topper if one had not already been added. 30 minutes!

See all the photos from the day and find out more about the Cake Decorator’s Association of WA Rockingham branch on their facebook page.
Check out the Rockingham calendar of events or get in touch with them to find out more.

Rockingham is just one of many great branches doing excellent work to promote and further develop the world of Cake Decorating.  Check out the meeting dates for your local club and whats on in your area or get in touch with your local branch now!
